Abstract:
The paper presents research findings with a particular group of Muslim Roma in Bulgaria – the so called Tatar çingenesi (Tatar Roma) from North East part of Bulgaria. The research is focused on identity issues, their memories and connections with Crimea. Interviews about the name Tatar çingenesi was conducted and oral history approach was used to collect memories. Most of the nowadays Bulgarian Tatar Roma do not remember their past and how their ancestors came to Bulgaria. The policy of the communist regime in Bulgaria, brought this particular Roma group to the stage that they identify as Turks and/or Tatars.
