Functional Categories and the Syntax of Focus in Tuki

Edmond Biloa
University of Yaounde

This book analyzes wh-movement in Tuki, a virtually unstudied language of Cameroon (West Africa). This investigation is conducted under the guidance of Generative Grammar, more precisely the Theory of Principles and Parameters developed by Chomsky (1981, 1982, 1986, 1991). It systematically describes a previously unanalyzed language and at the same time tackles problems of explanatory adequacy. Not only does it present a host of new data and analyses from a linguistically neglected area, it also makes substantive suggestions on how they should be incorporated into current Principles and Parameters Theory, and how they motivate modifications to that theory. Edited by Francis Katamba , Lancaster University.
