Linguistique, littérature et didactique : ponts et passerelles est un texte en hommage au Professeur David Ngamassu. C’est un volume de seize (16) contributions scientifiques dans les trois domaines de prédilection de cet enseignant-chercheur dont la carrière arrive à son terme. Par cet hommage, le département de French de l’université de Buea fait d’une pierre deux coups : rendre hommage au collègue dont la carrière s’achève et célébrer les trente années de la Réforme universitaire qui aura porté cette université sur les fonts baptismaux.
 
Les contributions scientifiques dans les trois champs de recherche du Professeur Ngamassu sont précédées de deux textes d’escorte : le mot du chef de département et de celui de l’ami. La quatrième section intitulée Varia donne la possibilité aux chercheurs d’autres champs de participer à cet hommage. Pour l’occasion, deux chercheurs en Histoire ont bien voulu apporter leur pierre au projet.
 
Les contributions retenues couvrent les disciplines aussi variées que : les politiques linguistiques, la stylistique, la grammaire normative, la lexicologie différentielle, les attitudes et représentations vis-à-vis des langues, la critique littéraire, les recherches en didactique et en sociolinguistique, etc. Elles donnent, chacune, un aperçu de l’évolution des problématiques dans leur domaines d’investigation respectifs.

Cet ouvrage collectif propose une analyse exploratoire de prises de parole et des productions littéraires et artistiques comme moyen d’expression de la résistance et de la contestation dans le contexte postcolonial africain sous différents angles épistémologiques.
 
Une première série d’études ancrées dans la linguistique critique et l’analyse du discours permettent d’explorer la verbalisation de l’acte de résistance dans les prises de parole des acteurs sociopolitiques. Ces analyses exposent la vision que la jeunesse africaine se fait des rapports qui devraient désormais liés l’Afrique et l’Occident, sous fond de remise en question des accords coloniaux et inégalitaires. Ces études analysent également comment les prises de parole structurent l’espace sociopolitique dans un contexte marqué par l’éveil de conscience populaire, traduit par des batailles rangées pour la conquête ou le maintien du pouvoir politique, ou pour la résistance aux décisions politico-administratives liberticides en temps de COVID-19. 
 
La seconde partie fait le décryptage des représentations que les auteurs africains se font de la société africaine à travers leurs œuvres littéraire et artistique, perçues comme une forme de résistance et de rejet des modèles sociaux, culturelles et politiques qui permettent la reproduction des systèmes qui entretiennent l’inertie, les inégalités et des injustices. Ces analyses rendent comptent de l’écriture ou l’art au service de la cause sociale. Ainsi, on découvre l’usage de l’art comme mode de résistance à l’Apartheid en Afrique du sud ; le récit romanesque, comme moyen de dénonciation des dérives sociétales ayant conduit au génocide rwandais, comme moyen de promouvoir une révision des rapports homme-femme, des gouvernants-gouvernés.

This book explains the main linguistic features of Japanese phraseological expressions, i.e. phraseologisms (PHOs), and is written for students of Japanese and Japanese linguistics.
 
The monograph consists of five chapters: Introduction (Ch. 1), Lexicology and Lexicosemantics (Ch. 2), Morphosyntax (Ch. 3), Semantics (Ch. 4), and Summary and Conclusions (Ch. 5). The book categorises Japanese PHOs into seven types: idioms, similes, aphorisms and quotations, proverbs, koji-seigo (ancient Chinese proverbs and sayings), kanji compounds (kanji-jukugo), and empty phrases. Approximately 400 PHOs are used to depict the main linguistic properties of Japanese PHOs: polylexicality, lexicality and reproduction, rigidity (stability), delexicalization, idiomaticity, and finally short expressions. Some PHOs are explained etymologically to draw the attention of the reader to classical Chinese literary works and the Japanese cultural background. In order to illustrate how Japanese PHOs are used concretely in the media today, c. 70 PHOs in Japanese national newspapers were selected and analysed. Thus, the book elucidates not only linguistic characteristics of Japanese PHOs, but also their practical use. The majority of PHOs explained in the book are analysed morphosyntactically so that the student can also see the agglutination of lexical items and thus learn Japanese grammatical structures.

This book offers a description of the development of multi-word verbs over the years 1750-1850; and specifically, it focuses on phrasal verbs, prepositional verbs and phrasal-prepositional verbs in Late Modern English (LModE).
 
The topics included in the book respond to the growing interest in research on the LModE period, which until recently had received only limited attention. Descriptive analyses of frequency and the use of multi-word verbs are complemented with a discussion of the factors and mechanisms driving language change, such as grammaticalization, lexicalization, idiomatization, direct formation, reanalysis and analogy. Adopting a corpus-based method, the book describes the transformation of multi-word verbs, the way stability intertwines with change, further corroborating the status of the LMod period as a time featuring both innovation and stable features.
 
The interplay of internal mechanisms of change favoured the loss of instances and the coinage of new members of the class of multi-word verbs, and often stimulated phenomena of interference between all multi-word verbs and cases of membership shift between classes.

This book makes a case for “differently literate” vernacular medium (VM) learners in the context of Telangana State (TS), India. It argues that learners are differently literate and bring different skill sets into a classroom. This, the book contends, may be considered as an advantage rather than a hindrance in the teaching-learning environment. Using the context of VM learners in select schools of TS, it claims that the concept of “differently literate” allows the teaching-learning of English to begin from a more constructive starting point, rather than viewing them as weak or poor in English proficiency. Such a perspective, the book suggests, may help teachers and policymakers to improve the teaching methodology of English. The book accomplishes this through an exploratory study of English language learners from English medium (EM) and VM high schools in TS. All these factors—influences, attitudes, aspirations, motivation levels—that impact the skill levels, learning strategies, etc. that learners bring to the classroom make them, it is argued, “differently literate”.
 
The book is divided into 5 chapters, Chapter one presents the introduction locates the context of the research in terms of a brief history of language education in the state of TS, particularly English. Chapter Two establishes the theoretical framework for the study. Chapter Three puts forward the rationale of the study, its nature and design. Chapter Four describes the methods of data analysis and interpretation. Chapter Five presents a summary of the findings.

Qur'anic semantics is concerned with: (i) lexical occurrence, (ii) lexical behavior, (iii) word order, (iv) discourse semantics where the purposeful selection of a specific word is interrelated to discourse discursive semantics, (v) lexis meaning which is motivated by discourse ideology, Ideological connotative meanings, and (vi) the semantic analysis of the text mood and diction.  Qur’anic semantics shows the reader: (i) the number of times a word occurs in the whole text, (ii) how the meaning of the word changes according to the context in which it occurs, and (iii) why a given grammatical structure occurs rather than a different one.
 
Qur’anic semantics examines the semantic aspects which have impact on meaning on the word and sentence levels. These aspects are: (i) content words (verbs, nouns, nominalized nouns, active/passive participle nouns, adjectives), (ii) function words such as the additive conjunctions such as (thumma – and) and (wa – and), (iii) tense (present, past, future), (iv) marked (unusual) / unmarked (usual) word order, and (v) no-main-verb nominal or main-verb sentences.
Qur’anic semantics is of value to Qur'anic corpus linguistics, lexicographers, Qur'anic linguistics, and translation studies.
