Language & Economic Reforms in Nigeria

Ozo-mekuri Ndimele, Clara I. Ikekeonwu & B.M. Mbah (eds.)
University of Port Harcourt; University of Nigeria, Nsukka

This book contains the first and best fruits of the 19th Annual Conference the Linguistic Association of Nigeria (LAN) which were carefully selected from a legion of equally good papers which constraints in space could not allow us to accommodate. The book is divided into four main sections. Section A contains papers which focus on the theme of the Conference, i.e., “Language and Economic Reforms”, from which the book derives its title. The three papers in this section discuss aspects of the national reforms agenda, especially as they pertain to the language provisions of the National Policy on Education in Nigeria. Section B comprises papers which address the sub-theme of language in history and society. Section C contains papers on literature, stylistics and gender studies. Section D is heavily loaded. It contains papers on various aspects of formal linguistics, which include phonology, morphology, semantics and syntax. Generally, the book caters for a variety of interests in the study of linguistics, languages and literatures in Nigeria.
